Delete your data
Last updated 8 September 2026
How to delete your GetScran account and the personal data attached to it — including data linked through WhatsApp — what has to stay for tax, and how long it takes.
In short
- You can do it yourself, right now:Account → Marketing & privacy → Delete my account. It takes effect immediately.
- Or email privacy@getscran.com with “Delete my data”, from the address or number on your account.
- Two kinds: one shop forgets you, or GetScran forgets you everywhere. Say which — and if you are unsure, ask for the second.
- Your name, contacts, addresses, allergens, points, messages and devices are erased — overwritten, not flagged.
- Order records stay six years for HMRC, with your identity stripped out. A transaction, not a person.
- Loyalty points are forfeited, and they do not come back if you re-register.
- Take a copy first if you want one — the same screen downloads everything we hold.
This summary is a courtesy, not the document. Where the two differ, the numbered sections below govern.
There are two kinds of deletion, and they are different
One GetScran account works across every shop on the platform, so “delete my data” can mean two different things. Both are real, and you choose:
- “This shop should forget me.” Ends your relationship with one shop — or, for a chain, one group of branches. Everything that shop holds about you is erased. Your GetScran ID, your card and your saved addresses keep working at every other shop.
- “GetScran should forget me.” The full one. We run the first process at every shop you have ever ordered from, and then delete your GetScran ID itself — your profile, your loyalty card, your saved addresses and your sign-in credentials.
If you are not sure which you want, ask for the second one. It includes the first.
How to do it
In your account — “this shop should forget me”.
- Open the shop’s ordering site or app and sign in.
- Go to Account → Marketing & privacy.
- Choose Delete my account and type the confirmation word.
It takes effect immediately — no waiting, no ticket, nobody reads your request first. You are told how many order records were kept for tax.
By email — either kind, and the only route today for the full one. Email privacy@getscran.com with the subject “Delete my data”, from the email address or phone number on your account, and say which of the two you want. If you do not say, we will ask.
We are honest about this: the button in your account does the this shop version. The whole of GetScran version is done by us, by hand, on request — it is exactly the same process, run at every shop you have used. Putting it behind a button too is on our list.
You can also just ask the shop. A manager or owner can run the deletion for you at their end. Counter staff and shared devices deliberately cannot — that is a protection for you, not an obstruction.
Before you delete, you can take a copy.The same Marketing & privacy screen will download everything we hold about you as a file. It is worth doing first: after deletion there is nothing left to send you.
What is deleted
All of this goes:
- your name, email address, phone number and any notes about you;
- every saved delivery address, including the map pins;
- your saved allergen and dietary preferences;
- your loyalty balance, and your loyalty card number is retired;
- your marketing preferences, along with your place in every campaign audience — no further messages of any kind;
- your sign-in sessions, one-time codes, magic links and passkeys;
- your push-notification devices and your notification history;
- your loyalty passes in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet;
- your reviews’ authorship, your support conversations, and any table booking or reservation in your name;
- the name and note attached to any shared or group basket;
- notes you typed for the kitchen on past orders;
- your name, address and phone on past deliveries, and the delivery signature image;
- your WhatsApp conversation and its link to your identity;
- your details inside the raw records we received from delivery apps and courier networks;
- your name, phone and email wherever they appear inside our internal logs.
This is not a “mark as deleted” flag. The values are overwritten. A test in our build scans every text field in the database for anything left behind and fails the release if it finds any.
What has to stay, and why
A deletion request is powerful but it is not unlimited — the law itself says so (Article 17(3) UK GDPR). Two things survive, and both survive without your identity attached:
| What stays | How long | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The order and payment record — items, prices, VAT, the amount paid | 6 years | HMRC requires businesses to keep accounting records. Your name, phone, email and address are stripped out of them; what is left is a transaction, not a person |
| The security and audit log — that an action happened, when, and by which staff account | 12 months | It is how a shop proves who touched a record, including proving your deletion was actually carried out. Any customer name, phone or email inside it is replaced with “[erased]” |
Also kept, because they are no longer about you: anonymous counts (that a dish was viewed, that a table was booked for four at seven), and a review’s star rating with the author removed.
Loyalty points are forfeited. They are a reward, not money, and there is nobody left to hold them for.
Data linked through WhatsApp or Facebook
Some shops take orders over WhatsApp. If you have used that, deleting your data removes:
- the conversation state we hold against your WhatsApp number;
- the link between that number and your GetScran identity;
- your details on any order that came in that way.
What we cannot delete is your copy, or Meta’s. The messages themselves live in WhatsApp. To remove those, delete the chat in WhatsApp, and use Meta’s own tools for anything held in your Facebook or WhatsApp account.
We do not use Facebook Login and we do not read your Facebook profile. If a shop advertises on Facebook or Instagram, that is between you and Meta and is not covered by a deletion here.
How long it takes
- In your account: immediately. The record is anonymised in the same action.
- By email: we confirm within 5 working days and it is done well inside the one calendar month the law allows us. If it is genuinely complicated we will tell you why and when, rather than going quiet.
- Backups: deleted data can persist in an encrypted backup for a short period before that backup rolls off. It is not read, not restored into the live system, and not used for anything.
Afterwards you can order again as a new customer, or open a fresh account. Nothing from the old one comes back — including your points.
If you are a shop owner, a member of staff, or a driver
Shops. A shop’s business data — its menu, sales, settings and staff — is separate from customer accounts and is not deleted by any of the above. To close a shop account and remove its data, contact us; some of it is subject to the same six-year accounting retention.
Staff and drivers. Your employer or the shop that engaged you is the controller of your employment records, so the request starts with them. We will act on their instruction and will help directly if they will not. Records tied to pay, tips and tax are kept for the periods the law requires.
If we get it wrong
Deletion is free and we cannot charge you for it, refuse it without a reason, or make you jump through hoops. If we do not do it, or you think we have kept something we should not have, tell us at privacy@getscran.com — and you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113 at any time, without coming to us first.
Questions?
Anything on this page — including a request to see, correct or delete your data — goes to privacy@getscran.com. For anything about an order, support@getscran.com reaches a real person, and the shop you ordered from can usually sort it fastest.
Unhappy with how we handled it? You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first, but you never have to.
